About Us

Building lifelong relationships with our members by offering spirited, personal service to help you meet your unique financial goals.

University of Louisiana Federal Credit Union (ULFCU) was chartered in September of 1958 by ten employees of Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI). These employees wanted to create a source of credit for members by pooling their savings to make loans at a low interest rate, as well as offer other financial services for the economic well-being of members. The name of the credit union has changed throughout the years as the name of the university has changed. Originally, it was named Southwestern Louisiana Institute Federal Credit Union, then changed to University of Southwestern Louisiana Federal Credit Union, and once again changed to its current name.

ULFCU originally only served UL Lafayette employees. In October 2022, ULFCU began serving undergraduate and graduate students. In December 2012, ULFCU opened membership to the UL Lafayette Alumni Association. In November 2015, ULFCU extended membership again to include South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) faculty, staff, and students.
