About Us

At University of Louisiana Federal Credit Union, we build lifelong relationships with UL Lafayette and South Louisiana Community College students, employees, alumni, and their families by providing affordable services tailored to their unique goals. From savings and checking to loans and financial wellness support, we’re committed to friendly, spirited service that empowers our community to achieve a brighter financial future.

Our mission is to build lifelong relationships with members and within our community by offering the financial resources and services to help them meet their unique financial goals.

University of Louisiana Federal Credit Union was chartered in September of 1958 by ten employees of Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI). These employees wanted to create a source of credit for members by pooling their savings to make loans at a low interest rate, as well as offer other financial services for the economic well-being of members.

The name of the credit union has changed throughout the years as the name of the university has changed. Originally, it was named Southwestern Louisiana Institute Federal Credit Union, then changed to University of Southwestern Louisiana Federal Credit Union, and once again changed to its current name.

ULFCU originally served only UL Lafayette employees. In October 2002, ULFCU began serving undergraduate and graduate students. In December 2012, ULFCU opened membership to the UL Lafayette Alumni Association. In November 2015, ULFCU extended membership again to include South Louisiana Community College faculty, staff, and students.
